Proserpina (Persephone)
I chose to depict Proserpina at the moment when she emerges from the underworld and undergoes a transformation from mistress of darkness to queen of life, and I have adorned her with fabrics from unused D&G garments to bestow femininity and sensuality upon her. Note: the artwork has a unique feature—it deceives the viewer’s eye. When standing in front of the painting, it’s difficult to discern the boundary between paint and fabric, where the brushstroke ends and where the fabric has been applied. The illusion can only be revealed by TOUCHING the painting!” This myth explains the changing seasons, with spring and summer representing Proserpina’s time on earth and autumn and winter symbolizing her time in the underworld.
